About the Position: Ruger is seeking an experienced and motivated attorney to expand its small, dedicated legal department and serve as an Associate General Counsel (AGC). The AGC position is located at the Ruger headquarters in Southport, Connecticut and the Company is seeking attorneys within commuting distance of that location.  The salary range includes a base salary of $110,000 to $140,000, depending upon experience level and mix, with excellent bonus potential tied to Company performance. The AGC reports directly to the General Counsel.
Primary Responsibilities:

Working with the General Counsel and other Associate General Counsel to manage the various legal affairs of the Company.
Working to ensure that Ruger is managing legal and business risks through our legal affairs, documentation, contracts, employer responsibilities, policies and processes.
Providing timely and effective legal support and advice to internal clients.
Reducing legal costs by bringing work "in house" and managing outside counsel.
Assisting the General Counsel in day-to-day management of the Corporate Compliance Program and related Company policies.
Assisting in the management, execution and updating of Company contracts.
Conducting legal review of Company correspondence and product-related documents.
Working closely with the marketing and sales department to provide legal advice and legal review of printed and web-based marketing materials.
Assisting in the management of the Company’s intellectual property portfolio.
Assisting in day-to-day oversight of the Company's insurance and claims handling programs, including extensive dealings with end-use customers and Ruger Customer Service Departments.

Education and Experience:
Candidates for this position must have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school, be a member of the bar in good standing, and have actively been engaged in the practice of law for not less than five (5) years. The ideal candidate also will:

Have experience practicing law in a broad spectrum of areas including complex commercial litigation and product liability, with particular experience in e-discovery, document retention, and related issues. Knowledge of corporate law, familiarity with patents and trademarks, and experience with environmental law would be a plus. (Translation: If you practice in a niche, you are likely not right for this job.)
Either: (1) be licensed to practice law in Connecticut; or (2) be eligible for admission on motion to the Connecticut Bar (or as Authorized House Counsel).
Possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with a variety of corporate clients as a member of a small, dedicated legal team. (Translation: You have to be able to get along and fit in, which includes recognizing that you do not know everything and patiently learning to navigate the corporate culture.)
Have a demonstrated and acute attention to detail. (Translation: If others are correcting your work, you are not right for this job.)
Have excellent writing, speaking and presentation skills. Really.  (Translation: You must have a firm grasp of the English language. Note that this includes writing like normal people; if your forte' is converting plain English into legalese, that could be a problem.)
Have a sense of humor. (Translation: The law is serious business and the Ruger legal team takes its responsibilities very seriously. However, if you have not laughed or cracked a joke in five years, you might not be a good fit. And, you might just need a vacation.)
Have the basic skills to work with little administrative support. (Translation: you must be able to type and print your own documents, use MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint, and Westlaw.  You occasionally may have to wear grubby cloths, move boxes and help file. If you think this type of work is somehow beneath you, you are not right for the job.)
Be dedicated and loyal. (Translation: This is a long-term career opportunity. We want to hire someone who plans to stay. If you change jobs every two years, please do not apply.)
Experience with firearms is a plus. (Translation: Actual experience.  If you went shooting once with your uncle twelve years ago, that doesn’t count.  Note: We make firearms. If you are philosophically opposed to firearms or firearm ownership for any reason, please do not apply. On the other hand, if you are an avid shooter, this could be your dream job.)

About the Process: If: (1) you got this far; AND (2) you are still interested; AND (3) you really, really, really think you satisfy the requirements of an ideal candidate, then please go to our career site, Ruger.com/careers and submit your resume and cover letter.
Applications will be reviewed as received.  If we have further interest, we will reach out to you directly.  Thank you, for your interest in Ruger Firearms.
