Vice President and University Counsel

Pace University is seeking to hire its next Vice President and University Counsel. This senior-level position provides the opportunity to use your legal experience and leadership to make a significant impact in a purpose-driven higher education institution, as it embarks on the next chapter of its growth trajectory.
The Vice President and University Counsel is a key member of the President’s leadership team, and works closely with the University’s academic and operational leaders, as well as its highly engaged board of trustees. In this role, you will also have responsibility for leading the team in the Office of the University Counsel, and have the opportunity to shape its future direction.  You will also work closely with outside firms as necessary. The Vice President and University Counsel is an active position that serves at the intersection of the University’s departments, operations and campus life, and is central to all legal matters, including contract review, preparation and negotiation, labor and talent issues, and institutional policy development.
The new University Counsel will join Pace at a very exciting time.  A new strategic plan is at the precipice of execution and realization. This blueprint for Pace’s future is based on the core mission of creating opportunity, and the University Counsel will play a significant role in its success.

Position Qualifications:

JD degree, admitted to the New York State Bar (or immediately eligible for admission).
7+ years of practice in a quality legal environment, including experience in higher education or a similar environment.
Knowledge of relevant local, state and federal laws and the ability to provide sound legal interpretations and guidance.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise legal opinions and other correspondence.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and foster trusted relationships.
