Pro Bono Practice Attorney at Winston & Strawn LLP (Los Angeles, CA)

Description:

The Pro Bono Practice Attorney, specialized in immigration, is responsible for maintaining an active caseload of immigration-related pro bono matters and providing technical assistance to Winston & Strawn pro bono teams working on immigration pro bono matters, including affirmative and defensive asylum, U-visa, VAWA, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status petitions (SIJS), and DACA matters. Search firm submissions will not be accepted.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Maintain an active client case docket

Work closely with Los Angeles, regional, and national non-profit organizations to secure an active caseload of various pro bono immigration-related matters;

Assist in developing pro bono immigration opportunities

Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with Los Angeles, regional, and national immigration pro bono organizations;

Assist with planning and executing various pro bono immigration trainings and clinics nationally.

Serve as a resource to firm pro bono teams engaged in immigration pro bono matters

Use significant expertise in immigration law in order to provide substantive and technical assistance to pro bono teams working on immigration pro bono matters;

Assist with supervision of large firm wide docket of pro bono immigration matters;

Regularly consult with Winston pro bono attorneys handling immigration pro bono matters.

QUALIFICATIONS:

J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school;

Admitted to practice law in California;

Excellent interpersonal skills to work with associates, staff and partners, and in the community at-large

Ability to maintain professional relations with co-workers and outside agencies;

Excellent software skills including knowledge of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint;

Knowledge of immigration law, policies and procedures

A minimum of 2 years immigration legal experience - including Asylum and U visa experience

Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred
