Trial Attorney II

We are committed to strengthening our presence in Southern CT as we grow our business and are looking for a Trial Attorney to help build a team to support this effort.
Will consider Sr Trial Attorney candidates based on relevant experience.

Job DescriptionProvides professional legal services, protects the best interest of clients on assigned cases, handles litigated cases and court appearances and assists in advising the Claims Department and Company in tort, contract and insurance law.Competent knowledge of the legal system and all basics of litigation required. Handles assigned cases to conclusion by bench or jury trial and have knowledge of insurance claim, tort and contract litigation.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Education: Masters Degree or equivalent, related experience.
Experience: 6 - 8 years - or Associates Degree equivalent plus 8 or more years.
Knowledge: General knowledge of industry practices, standards, and concepts within field of work. Applies them to perform work requiring analytical business skills.
Decision Making: Makes decisions related to a wide variety of situations within management limits. Interprets guidelines and procedures, applying judgment and discretion. Decisions influence portions of a project, clientrelationships and/or expenditures.
Supervision Received:  Works independently under moderate to general supervision, receiving specific and detailed instructions on new types of work.
Leadership: May provide training and guidance to less experienced staff.
Problem Solving/Operations/Direct Work Involvement: Develops solutions to a variety of problems, typically of moderate scope and complexity. Refers to and interprets policies and practices for guidance.
Client Contacts: Contacts other departments and or external organizations or parties frequently. Contacts are primarily at or below upper management levels. Represents organization on specific projects.  Communication may involve persuasion, and negotiation.
 
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited Law School and admission to the Bar in jurisdiction(s) in which the office is located and practices is required.6 to 10 years of relevant legal and litigation experience required. Prior insurance defense or tort litigation experience is required.Experience with independently managing litigated cases from inception to conclusion is required. Must have advanced written and oral communication skills.  Proficiency with computer software including current Windows Operation System, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook and Legal Case ManagementPrograms.Must be able to handle a significant case load with modest trial work, communicate effectively and persuasively with clients, courts, the Claim Department and outside professional legal personnel, competently represent the organization to members of the legal community and other associations, analyze problems and recommend viable solutions relating to the management of litigation and effectively negotiate/plead cases in litigation.
