Outstanding national Real Estate Company based in the DC area has two new Counsel positions in the Legal Department that we are handling on an exclusive basis. This company is growing and is highly regarded in the industry. We have placed 4 lawyers there and all have given us very positive reports regarding daily responsibilities and work/life balance. We just placed a junior attorney there in the past week.
Position #1 is in suburban DC and is a Senior Counsel role. This person will be assigned a Region within the U.S. and will be responsible for all leasing within that Region. Must have 10-15 years of commercial real estate experience with at least 25% of the practice focused on retail leasing. Office leasing experience is a plus. Experience negotiating on behalf of anchor stores is a strong preference. Previous in-house experience is a plus. Base comp 180-200k (depending on experience) with 15% year-end bonus. Will report to Senior VP of Legal Operations who also heads the Leasing Team.
Position #2 is also in suburban DC. This is a mid-level role (6-8 years of experience) and will require commercial real estate experience of which 25% should be commercial leasing, but not at the same level of sophistication as the more senior role. This position will involve 80% leasing (primarily retail with some office leasing) and 20% operations and other matters. The 20% will include handling the legal aspects of operational issues at the company’s properties and overseeing outside counsel on various matters. Base comp is 150-165k (depending on experience) with 15% year-end target bonus. Will report to Senior VP of Legal Operations who also heads the Leasing Team.
NOTE: For the past ten years, annual bonuses have been paid at or above 100% of target.
Company has a very positive work culture and excellent benefits. Hours are very reasonable. Night and weekend work is rare. The lawyers are friendly, collaborative and very willing to help each other when needed. We have been told that the person overseeing these positions (Senior VP of Operations) gives the group a lot of autonomy and is a terrific mentor who helps the lawyers grow professionally. The GC of the company is also highly regarded, very personable and has been with the company for 30 years.
