Staff Attorney - The Weinberg Center for Elder Justice

Exciting opportunity to join the legal team at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Center for Elder Justice, the nation's first elder abuse shelter and a leader in the elder justice field. Candidates must have a JD and be admitted to practice in the State of New York. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required. Experience with elder abuse and/or domestic violence, victim advocacy or public interest is preferred. Our program is located at the Hebrew Home at Riverdale by RiverSpring Health, a nationally acclaimed long term care community located on 32 beautiful acres along the Hudson River. The successful candidate will play an active role in our dynamic multi-disciplinary team, developing legal strategies for each client, often in collaboration with law enforcement and other area agencies. The Staff Attorney will respond to referrals for shelter services from community agencies, interact with shelter clients to provide ongoing legal services aimed at restoring them to safety and dignity, and appear in courts throughout the boroughs of New York City and Westchester County, including Family Court, Housing Court and Supreme Court. The Staff Attorney will also coordinate and provide outreach and training to a variety of professional and community audiences. Policy work and grant writing on elder justice issues are also part of the portfolio for the position.
