POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for proactive risk identification, evaluation, coordination and implementation of corrective action related to hospital wide risk issues. Provides risk management education and intervention, promotes safe work environment. Directs hospital wide risk programs and reports all potential risk situations, and corrective measures in coordination with the respective parties to the Chief Risk Officer or designee. Assist with the preparation of malpractice briefs to mitigate hospital expenditures.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate activities that focus on the management of claims and pretrial preparation.
Responsible for assisting in all insurance procurement tasks.
Consults with all clinical departments in ensuring collaborative patient care risk reduction and performance improvement.
Collaborates with the Health Information Management department to ensure the appropriate medical records are prepared prior to review by attorneys, or other agent, and/or regulatory bodies.
Directs the hospital’s Risk Management education programs providing input and presenting at new employee orientation and in-services and, provides Ad Hoc training as necessary.
Directs the coordination of correspondence between the medical center and legal counsel in and potential or actual litigation assisting in preparation of legal documents.
Assists legal counsel in preparing employee witnesses, attends depositions, meditations or trials, and acts as the hospitals’ representative.
Researches and advises hospital management of pending risk management regulations, systems, mandates and other issues that may affect the medical center.
Ensures that the medical center is fully compliant in all risk management matters including all state, federal JCAHO, and regulatory body requirements.
Analyzes risk management data derived from medical records, surveys, inspections, regulatory bodies and other means, and advises senior management on mitigation processes.
Investigates actual and potential adverse outcomes/sentinel events, completes root cause analysis and assist in implementing corrective measures.
REQUIREMENTS:
NYS RN Licensed and/or Juris Doctor
Master’s Degree in Nursing, Health Care Management or related field preferred
Certification in Risk management preferred
At least 10 years’ experience in a related field
