ANNOUNCEMENT FOR VACANCY OF ONE PERSONAL LAW CLERK TO THE HONORABLE JEANETTE RODRIGUEZ-MORICK
THE HON. JEANETTE RODRIGUEZ-MORICK IS RECRUITING ONE PERSONAL LAW CLERK TO BE FILLED IN ONE OF FOUR TITLES—LAW CLERK TO JUDGE (JG-24), SENIOR LAW CLERK TO JUDGE (JG-26), ASSOCIATE LAW CLERK TO JUDGE (JG-28), OR PRINCIPAL LAW CLERK TO JUDGE (JG-31) — DEPENDING ON THE QUALIFCATIONS AND EXPERIENCE OF THE APPLICANT SELECTED.
POSITION: Personal Law Clerk
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK:The Hon. Jeanette Rodriguez-Morick, a New York State Court of Claims Judge and ActingSupreme Court Justice, divides her time between two assignments that include presidingover (1) civil claims against New York State in the Court of Claims, District of New York(downtown Manhattan); and (2) felony criminal trials in the New York State Supreme Court, Bronx County. Judge Rodriguez-Morick’s staff is required to travel between the two locations.
Below are brief descriptions of her two assignments and law clerk responsibilities in eachcourt. In addition to these duties, a law clerk is expected to provide other personal andconfidential assistance to the Judge. Law clerks are personally appointed by the Judge and serve at the Judge’s pleasure.
Court of Claims, New York DistrictThe Judge presides over civil bench trials at which claims for money damages are asserted against the State of New York. Subject matter jurisdiction includes but is not limited to causes of action for wrongful death, personal injury, medical malpractice, labor law, property claims, and unjust convictions. There is no monetary cap limiting jurisdiction. In addition to conferencing cases with the attorneys for scheduling purposes and facilitating discovery, a law clerk is responsible for drafting decisions on motions (discovery motions, motions to dismiss, and for summary judgment) and trial decisions.
Supreme Court, Criminal Term, Bronx CountyThe Judge presides over felony criminal jury trials including ones involving charges formurder, predatory sexual assault, Medicaid fraud, and robbery.An able candidate must be able to quickly and accurately research the evidentiary andprocedural issues that arise during suppression hearings and trials. The law clerk is alsoresponsible for drafting decisions, final jury instructions, verdict sheets, andcorrespondence.

TIMING: The start date for this position is sometime in September to mid-October 2019. This is a one-year term position with the possibility of permanent employment.
BASE SALARY: $77,054–$112,170, plus $4,200 location pay, depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant.
