Robins Financial Credit Union (RFCU), a $2.7 billion financial institution, located in Warner Robins, Georgia, seeks a progressive professional to join its executive team in the capacity of General Counsel.
This position is primarily responsible for overseeing the credit union’s legal activities. General Counsel manages the legal function, and obtains and oversees the work of outside counsel. The General Counsel is directly involved in complex business transactions in negotiating critical contracts. The position also provides senior management with effective advice on company strategies and their implementation.
This position reports directly to the CEO and is a Member of RFCU’s Executive Management Team. General Counsel may be actively involved in committees designated by the Board of Directors.
General Counsel will provide assessment of the legal and regulatory landscape to assist Management and Board of Directors in executing the appropriate strategy to deliver the desired results while ensuring the safety and soundness of RFCU.
Responsible for compliance with all laws and areas of regulatory compliance for all operating areas within the credit union, including any necessary policy modifications to ensure compliance; participating in the development and drafting of policies.
Advises Human Resources department on employment matters and coordinates any related administrative actions and/or litigation.
Manages external counsel and act as liaison for RFCU in all litigation and other legal matters.
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable areas of the statutory rules and regulations set forth by the GDBF, NCUA and FFIEC, as well as the internal policies procedures and processes to demonstrate compliance.
Responsible for all Corporate Governance to include adherence to Bylaws and regulatory filings.
Ensures timely communication/action to any regulatory agency and/or law enforcement on issues pertaining to the credit union.
Qualifications for the position:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school
Must be licensed with the State Bar of Georgia, or complete the licensing requirements within a negotiated timeline.
Additionally at a minimum 4 years, related experience in legal and regulatory compliance is required.
Other certifications and/or licenses such as CUCE (CUNA Credit Union Compliance Expert) or FRM (Financial Risk Manager) are desirable but not required.
Equivalent certifications and/or licenses are also desirable.
Experience with credit unions and/or other financial institutions,or a governing regulatory agency (e.g., NCUA, OCC, state regulatory agencies,etc.)
