Description:In this role you will be a lead attorney working in our Hartford regional in house counsel office defending State Auto Insurance Company (SA) in the State of Connecticut (CT). You will be responsible for handling all litigated matters assigned to you and working closely with the Managing Attorney and claims staff from around the company.Key Responsibilities: Complete all the tasks necessary to prepare cases for mediation, pre-trial, trial and post-trial resolution in the defense of SA and SA insureds. You will maintain all requirements for the practice of law in the state of CT. Handle all litigated matters within the practice and protocol as established per the Case Handling Guidelines, and as directed by Corporate Claim Counsel and/or theManaging Attorney.Minimum Experience/Education: Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree is required. 8+ years of experience in Insurance Defense Litigation or related field preferred. Licensed to practice law in CT. In-house counsel experience for an insurer is a plus. Basic computer skills and Google/Microsoft applications. P&C Insurance experience required.Communication and Collaboration Skills:Ability to write simple, as well as highly complex and technical memos, letters, analyses, and reports. Must have the ability to write pretrial, trial, post-trial and appellatematerials. Ability to communicate and explain both simple and complex materials to Company personnel, opposing counsel, judges and juries, either individually or in groups.Problem Solving:Experience preparing for trial and trying cases involving first and third party claims against insurance companies or their insureds, including appeals. Ability to prepare all formsof correspondence and pleadings.
