White Collar/Litigation Associate

Squire Patton Boggs (US) LLP, a global law firm with 44 offices, in 19 countries, is seeking a Litigation Associate with 3+ years’ experience and a demonstrated interest in white-collar criminal defense and commercial litigation. The person ideally would be located in Houston, but a position in our Dallas office is a possibility for the right candidate. The individual hired for this position will support and work directly with “Texas trial legend” Dan Cogdell and other experienced lawyers throughout our global footprint representing a broad array of clients in both state and federal court matters throughout Texas and the US.  The individual hired will have the opportunity to be in trial on a regular basis.   
Responsibilities   
The individual hired for this position will have an opportunity to assume significant responsibility in white collar criminal and complex litigation matters for key clients and high profile matters and be part of a global team. The candidate can also expect to be involved with a variety of assignments and receive valuable hands-on experience across a range of matters, including motion practice, depositions, and trial. Responsibilities will include legal research, drafting motions, pleadings and other transaction documents, discovery, court appearances, case management, and client communications.   
Academic and Professional Qualifications   

Possess a JD from an accredited law school and a strong academic record.
Admitted to practice in the State Bar of Texas and in good standing.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience   

Minimum of three years’ experience working in a law firm or relevant government agency handling work in commercial litigation and/or white-collar criminal defense.
Demonstrated interest in criminal defense.
Federal clerkship experience (preferably in Houston or Dallas) preferred.
Experience working for the US Attorney’s office or the Federal Public Defender is a plus.
Proven ability to independently manage a case and move it forward.
Experience in legal research, written discovery, motion practice (discovery, dispositive and trial related motions, pleadings and briefs), court appearances, client and witness interviews, trial preparation.
Strong organizational, reasoning and research skills; excellent written and verbal communication abilities; good judgment; attention to detail; initiative.
Stand-up experience in court, while not required, will be viewed favorably.
Flexibility, composure and the ability to prioritize and handle urgent tasks and requests simultaneously with a high level of competence and accuracy; the ability to remain composed and professional while dealing with complex matters; commitment to professional ethics and client confidentiality; strong client service skills.
Ability to work without constant supervision, demonstrating initiative in seeking work and managing work load; active in formulating and recommending projects or alternative ways to complete projects that will benefit the case/client.
