DESCRIPTION:Vacancy is in the Corporation Counsel's Office. Under administrative direction, provides full-time legal representation for City agencies, departments, and administrators. This is a union position. The hoursof work for this position are 40 per week.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:Legal practice and procedures in Connecticut and the common, statutory and local laws and ordinances, established precedents and the source of legal reference;Principles, practices, methods and procedures of legal research and investigation;Administrative law and procedures, including administrative and regulatory practice, real estate, contract drafting and review, civil litigation and foreclosure.Judicial and trial procedures and rules of evidence;Municipal law and government:
Ability to:Organize, appraise and analyze facts, evidence and precedents in connection with court cases and legal opinions;Interpret judicial decisions and apply the same;Establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials and employees of the jurisdiction, court officials and with the general public.
QUALIFICATIONS:Open to all qualified applicants who meet the following qualifications:
Possession of a valid Juris Doctor Degree or equivalent from an ABA accredited law school; current membership in good standing with the Connecticut State and Federal bars. Three (3) years of experience in the practice of law, with an emphasis on administrative and regulatory practice, real estate, contract drafting and review, civil litigation and foreclosure.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONSMust be a member in good standing of the Connecticut Bar for at least three (3) years prior to appointment OR one (1) year as a member in good standing of the Connecticut Bar and two (2) years (not concurrent with the Connecticut membership) as a member in good standing of the Bar in another state of the United States.
A COPY OF YOUR DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR APPLICATION. A DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT SUBMITTED WILL BE VERIFIED BY THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT.
OTHER INFORMATION:If selected, you will be required to pass a physical examination administered by a City physician, a drug and alcohol screening, and a background check. If appointed, you will be required to serve three(3) to twelve (12) months of probation. This examination and employment process is subject to all federal, state and municipal laws, rules and regulations.
