Deputy General Counsel

The Public Employment Relations Commission seeks one Deputy General Counsel (DGC) with experience in public sector labor relations. This position is in the unclassified service in State Government. A J.D. degree and admission to the New Jersey Bar is required.  The Commission is a seven-member body that makes determinations regarding alleged violations of the New Jersey Employer-Employee Relations Act and scope of negotiations, representation, and interest arbitration matters.
 
A DGC’s primary responsibility is to review and analyze complex disputes pending before the Commission and to draft succinctly written recommended decisions for the Commission's consideration. A DGC will also represent the Commission in both State and Federal court.  Excellent analytical and writing skills are paramount, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills. Experience with administrative rulemaking, OPRA and arbitration is a plus. 
 
This position has a targeted start date of July 2020.  The anticipated salary range is $86,443.36 to $98,783.56, unless specialized experience justifies a higher salary.
