FOIA Litigation Attorney

Summary: The Office of the Legal Adviser of the Department of State seeks attorneys to handle litigation related to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act.
Responsibilities: The attorneys will be part of a team of attorneys litigating in the areas of the FOIA and Privacy Act and will serve as agency counsel in litigation arising under the FOIA and the Privacy Act.  In litigating responses to requests under FOIA and the Privacy Act, the attorneys will assist Department of Justice (DOJ) attorneys in litigation and preparing pleadings, motions, memoranda of law, and briefs.   The attorneys will also coordinate and review responses from Department of State (DOS) components and provide legal advice on related issues.  
Requirements:  Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, have a J.D. degree, and be a member in good standing of a state bar.  Current security clearance is preferred; ability to obtain security clearance is required.  Applicant must have an outstanding record of academic and professional achievement, and possess excellent analytical, writing, organizational, and interpersonal communications skills.  Applicant must have three years experience in litigation, administrative law, and/or FOIA, and applicants with at least one year of experience in FOIA litigation preferred.  The successful applicant will be a self-starter, able to handle a wide variety of assignments with short, time-critical deadlines, as well as design and execute substantial analytical projects.
