Job Summary
Attorney will be an underwriter in the department evaluating submissions from Consumers for non-recourse advances secured by the potential proceeds of their pending personal injury litigations.  Underwriter will be trained by the senior underwriter to provide timely evaluations of case value, duration, likelihood of ultimate success and be responsible for making approval decisions for a high volume of funding requests. 
Duties and Responsibilities
-          Reports to the SVP of Operations
-          Learns and uses company’s proprietary management software
-          Manages time-sensitive assigned queue of potential pre-settlement advance investments
-          Evaluates file notes and documents in company’s proprietary system to establish a reasonable estimated value of the underlying litigation
-          Makes decision whether to approve an investment based upon established internal company funding criteria and reports reason for decision
-          Stays abreast of significant legislative changes and appellate case decisions in all jurisdictions where company’s investments are sourced.
-          Assists company with other legal matters should the need arise
Requirements and Qualifications
-          Attorney admitted to the bar in good standing in at least one state.  New York bar admission a plus
-          5+ years of experience evaluating various types of negligence claims including but not limited to MVA, slip & fall, premises, labor law, medical malpractice, etc.
-          Ability to build strong interpersonal relationships with senior management and sales staff throughout the company
-          Excellent administrative skills

Education
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
Location
Position will be headquartered in our NYC office which is in the Financial District area in lower Manhattan. Occasionally, there will be some work duties in the company’s satellite office in Jersey City, NJ.  The NJ location is directly across from the Newport PATH station.
