Job Description: The Appeals Bureau is responsible for all appellate advocacy and serves as a legal department and research center for all the Office’s Assistant District Attorneys.  In addition to writing briefs, post-conviction motion responses, and responses to federal habeas corpus petitions, attorneys in the Appeals Bureau assist trial attorneys in the office, fashion legal arguments, research case precedents, and answer complex legal questions.  The Appeals Bureau Chief is responsible for:

Supervising and managing ADAs and support staff in the Appeals Bureau.
Editing briefs, motion responses, and responses to federal habeas petitions.
Supervising manager of the FOIL Unit.
Reporting to the Executive Assistant District Attorney for the Appeals and Special Litigation Division

Qualifications:  Interested applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the New York State bar in good standing and have at least 15 years post-J.D. experience. Applicants must also have:
            •          Extensive experience in handling all aspects of criminal appellate prosecution. 
•          Superior organizational, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
•          Extensive knowledge of New York Penal and Criminal Procedure Laws.
•          Experience managing junior attorneys.
•          Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
