Job Description: The Child Abuse Unit Chief manages and supervises the QDA Special Victims Bureau activities at the Queens Child Advocacy Center (“QCAC”) where a multi-disciplinary team jointly responds to physical and sexual abuse of children. Responsibilities include:
Overseeing the day-to-day QDA operations at the QCAC
Supervising work of all ADAs and QDA personnel assigned to the QCAC and/or working on QCAC cases
Managing case assignments and allocation of QDA personnel resources at the QCAC
Working with ADAs and multi-disciplinary team members on a case-by-case basis to develop investigatory and prosecution strategies
Representing QDA at county, citywide and multi-disciplinary team meetings involving, among other things, QCAC operations, strategic planning, and implementation of best practices
Serve as QDA liaison to the NYC Administration for Children’s Services, the Special Commissioner of Investigations, and the Department of Education
Monitoring, and responding when necessary, to in-coming child abuse IRTs in real-time
Developing, with Special Victims Bureau managers, operational and strategic plans for continued improvements and implementation of best practices at the QCAC
Working to fulfill QDA commitments under the QCAC memorandum of understanding between participating agencies
Maintaining a limited case load of active prosecutions
Qualifications: Interested applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the New York State bar in good standing and have at least 10 years post-J.D. experience. Applicants must also have:
Certification in forensic interviewing of children and significant experience conducting forensic interviews
Experience investigating and prosecuting child physical and sexual abuse cases
Thorough understanding of New York child sexual and physical abuse penal law statutes
Substantial felony jury trial experience
Proficiency in reading and assessing in medical records and child protective services reports
Familiarity with operations of NYPD, ACS, and medical care providers as they relate to child abuse investigations and prosecutions.
Experience forming and maintaining partnerships with law enforcement, social services, and health care agencies.
Community outreach experience in prevention and detection programming
Outstanding organizational, interpersonal and communications skills
