OPPORTUNITY SNAPSHOT:
UFG Insurance is seeking a Trial Attorney who welcomes the opportunity to practice law in a dynamic environment free of any obligation to build a book or business or manage billable hours. If you have substantial civil jury trial experience in bodily injury and/or property damage litigation in California courts, and seek a challenging, engaging legal career, our Staff Attorney opportunity may be right for you.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Expertly litigate claims defending UFG insureds: Prepare pleadings, initiate and respond to discovery, prepare cases for mediations and trials (both State and Federal), perform legal research and legal writings.
Perform successfully persuasive negotiations: Work directly with insureds, claimants, counsel mediators and courts in settling losses.
Strategy Evaluation: Review and discuss settlement values, defense tactics and strategies with adjusters. Provide adjusters regularly with written status reports to keep them advised.
Collaboration: Working with clients, claims professionals, underwriting, risk control and other third parties in an effort to resolve legal issues presented.
Research and Education: Keep apprised of changes in law and court procedures. Comply with MCLE requirements.
Travel Required: Travel up to 50% of the time throughout the State of California
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
Must have:
A minimum of 7 years’ experience practicing law that must include some civil jury trial experience in bodily injury and property damage litigation in California courts
Clean DMV driving record
Preferred to have:
Experience in paperless file environment, Westlaw research, and Microsoft Office.
Education Requirements:
Must have a law degree from an accredited college or university and licensed to practice in California
