The incumbent in this position provides paralegal assistance to Immigration attorneys. The incumbent provides efficient and cost‑effective paralegal services to the firm's clients while demonstrating high ethical and moral standards of conduct. The job includes preparing and filing petitions and applications with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, State and Federal Departments of Labor, and U.S. Consulates and Embassies world-wide. Assists attorneys and clients with a variety of immigration‑related tasks and petition/application preparation. Interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, are required.
Nature and Scope
This position reports directly to a supervising attorney for the Immigration Group. Interacts mainly with attorneys in the Immigration practice group. Also has frequent direct contact with clients. May liaise with the Corporate, Employee Benefits, Labor and Tax practice groups, as well as attorneys in regional offices, service companies, governmental agencies and others as necessary to adequately perform job duties.
Education and Experience
AAS in Paralegal Studies required or equivalent credit hours (48‑50) in a paralegal certificate program, Baccalaureate Degree in Paralegal Studies preferred. Baccalaureate Degree in a related field of study coupled with actual paralegal work experience as indicated in the experience section below.
Two years full‑time related paralegal work experience preferred. Work experience other than immigration paralegal coupled with the educational requirements as stated above may be considered. Computer literacy required; experience with MS Word for Windows required.
