External Description We currently have an opportunity for a Counsel to join our Corporate Legal team located at our Corporate Headquarters in Minnetonka, MN. This position is responsible for the management of routine and complex non-claim legal issues, including policy drafting as well as providing legal advice, representation and research.

Responsibilities:

1. Drafts and edits commercial property and casualty insurance coverage forms. Researches statutes, rules and regulations to confirm forms are compliant.
2. Monitors and researches developments in the commercial property and casualty insurance industry. Generates product development strategies based upon these developments and communicates strategies to legal and underwriting management
3. Conducts legal research for responses to legal, regulatory and compliance issues.
4. Provides legal advice on OneBeacon related issues based on research and analysis.

Requirements:

Extensive knowledge of commercial property and casualty insurance products, coverage, the legal system and developing legal and regulatory issues. Basic understanding of personal computers and software applications for scheduling and communications. Demonstrated ability to represent the organization to members of the legal community, government agencies and insurance industry associations. Excellent communication skills and ability to collaboratively work as part of a team whose members are located throughout the country.

Education and Experience:

Bar admission required and a minimum of 5+ years of legal experience with five or more years specializing in commercial property or casualty insurance product drafting. Private practice experience with coverage litigation preferred.
Travel may be required – less than 20%.
