The University of Iowa invites applications for a full-time instructional-track position in the Legal Analysis, Writing, and Research (“LAWR”) program at the level of Lecturer, Associate Professor, or Professor. The position will begin in the fall semester of the 2024 academic year. Faculty in the LAWR program typically teach two sections each semester in the required first-year courses. In the fall, faculty teach predictive analysis, writing, and research. In the spring semester, the focus shifts to advocacy. Class size per section is typically between 15 and 20 students. Within program guidelines, faculty members design their own curriculum, choose their own class materials, and create their own writing assignments. The position is full-time during the nine-month academic year. Members of the LAWR faculty participate in shared governance. Faculty are appointed to multi-year contracts, starting at three years at the Lecturer level, increasing to five years at the Associate Professor level, and seven years at the Professor level. Salary is commensurate with experience. The College of Law is located in Iowa City, an affordable university town known for its vibrant academic culture and active literary community. Required Qualifications: A JD from an ABA-accredited law school A minimum of one year of law practice experience Excellent academic credentials Evidence of potential in teaching Evidence of potential to contribute appropriate service to the College of Law Potential to teach students from a diverse range of backgrounds Desired Qualifications: Experience teaching writing Substantial law practice experience Demonstrated ability to contribute innovative teaching ideas to the Legal Analysis, Writing, and Research program at the College of Law Demonstrated ability to work with international students Demonstrated ability to maintain effective and respectful working relationships with the campus community to uphold a standard of cultural competency and respect for differences in identity and perspective. Minimum qualifications for specific ranks: Lecturer Excellent academic credentials, including a JD degree; Evidence of potential in teaching legal analysis, research and writing, which can be demonstrated through experience in teaching of this kind or through other relevant experience such as law practice involving mentoring, advising, etc.; and Evidence of potential to contribute appropriate service to the College of Law. Associate Professor Excellent academic credentials, including a JD degree; An established record of excellence in teaching legal analysis, research and writing; and An established record of excellence in service to a law school community or its equivalent. Professor Excellent academic credentials, including a JD degree; A sustained record of excellence in teaching legal analysis, research and writing in a law school whose overall quality and LAWR program are at least equivalent to those of the University of Iowa College of Law; and A sustained record of excellence in service to a law school whose overall quality and LAWR program are at least equivalent to those of the University of Iowa College of Law.
