Deputy Statewide Coordinator

(Attorney 2)The New Jersey Judiciary, Office of Attorney Ethics(OAE), Supreme Court of New Jersey seeks anattorney to act as a Deputy Ethics Counsel in theDistrict Ethics Committee Unit within the OAE.Assist the Statewide Ethics Coordinator with roughly700 volunteer members (roughly 570 attorneys and130 non-attorneys) of the District Ethics Committees(DECs) and the 55 DEC officers (all volunteerattorneys) who serve on the 18 DECs throughoutNJ. Position requires the candidate to be skilledat analyzing different legal and factual situationsquickly, to be followed by the drafting of concisesummaries and recommendations for proposedresponse or action. The candidate must be ableto write with insight, clarity, speed and accuracy.Selected candidate will be assigned to designatedDECs as the key staff member who follows up withOfficers and members to ensure the timely processingand disposition of the cases pursuant to R. 1:20-8.Candidate will be expected to appear before theDisciplinary Review Board and Supreme Court tolitigate cases arising from DECs.Example of Duties: Act as the Deputy to the Statewide Coordinator within the DEC Unit. Prepare filings and/or review the legal sufficiency of case documents to besubmitted to the Disciplinary Review Board or Supreme Court; prepare andappear for oral argument on such cases when assigned Act as primary liaison attorney responding to questions and requests forassistance or response from half of the 18 DECs Attend DEC meetings for all districts on a rotating basis throughout the year Provide support needed to make sure disciplinary investigations and hearingsproceed forward in the District Ethics Committees in accord with the time goalsset by the Supreme Court Review and screen attorney ethics grievances Review and assess the legal sufficiency of investigation reports and dispositiondocuments Conduct the legal analysis and recommend courses of action in cases proposedfor diversion or other disposition on consentSalary range is $90,333.78 - $124,992.28.
