Position: GENERAL ATTORNEY Location: Washington, DC Salary: $160,831 - $272,100 per year Open & closing dates: 09/14/2023 to 09/27/2023 Job Link: https://www.usajobs.gov/job/749057500 Summary This position is in the Adjudication Group, which advises and assists the Commission in issuing published opinions in contested appeals from the decisions of administrative law judges, self-regulatory organizations, and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, as well as in contested administrative proceedings set for a hearing before the Commission. Serve as a Senior Adjudication Counsel within the Adjudication Group of the Office of the General Counsel. Assist with the management and oversight of proceedings set before the Commission, including Section 12(j) proceedings and/or follow-on proceedings. Review the record, the parties' briefs, and the relevant precedent; and draft opinions and orders in contested appeals from the decisions of administrative law judges, self-regulatory organizations, and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, as well as contested administrative proceedings set for a hearing before the Commission. Advise senior OGC leadership and Commissioners' counsels on the highest complexity adjudicatory matters, which can involve precedent-setting legal issues and have a significant impact on the administration of the securities laws. Provide guidance and feedback on the drafting of opinions and orders by others in adjudicatory matters. Prepare legal interpretations and legal memoranda regarding difficult, complex, and/or novel legal problems, and lead junior attorneys in the preparation of such materials. Draft, review, and edit pre-hearing orders in cases set for a hearing before the Commission. Confer directly with operating divisions and other offices regarding matters within their expertise. Assist the Appellate Group with appeals from Commission opinions. Draft orders in response to motions in unassigned matters.
