All three positions are at-will positions, serving at the pleasure of the City Attorney. The positions are distinguished by increased responsibilities and complexity as well as the greater degree of independence and decision-making abilities.Strategically minded, the ideal attorney(s) see the bigger picture and can dissect complex legal issues, analyze multifaceted situations, and formulate comprehensive strategies that lead to successful outcomes. The successful candidate(s) will have the demonstrated ability to pivot and apply changes to priorities as necessary. They can articulate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely, ensuring that departments are informed and empowered to make informed decisions. The ideal candidate(s) will have expertise in one or more of the following areas:Labor and employment lawReal estate and housing related mattersPublic safety related mattersLand use and CEQAContract lawCode EnforcementPublic Records ActIncorporated in 1905, Richmond is a full-service city, providing a full range of municipal services including: police and fire protection; stormwater and municipal sewer systems; deep water port; and library services. Operating under a Council-Manager form of government, with a Mayor and six City Council members, Richmond is one of the most progressive city governments in California. The City is supported by approximately 740 allocated FTEs and a FY 2023-24 General Fund budget of approximately $225 million.The annual compensation for each position is:Senior Assistant City Attorney: $125,304 - $199,464Assistant City Attorney: $113,700 - $180,984Deputy City Attorney: $101,892 - $162,204Placement within the range will be dependent upon the experience and qualifications of the applicant.
