The Role



Lending Club’s Legal Department is seeking talented candidates for a position as the Assistant General Counsel for the company’s Springstone Financial subsidiary. Based in Westborough, MA, the Assistant General Counsel will report to Lending Club’s Deputy General Counsel, Borrower, located in San Francisco, CA. The Assistant General Counsel will be responsible for the delivery of day-to-day legal support for Springstone’s business. The Assistant General Counsel will support and have accountability to the President of Springstone and others on the Springstone senior management team.



The successful candidate must have outstanding communication skills, an ability to anticipate and deliver on the needs of a fast-paced and innovative business, be comfortable working with cross-functional teams in different geographic locations and the flexibility to simultaneously manage a wide range of projects.





Responsibilities



- Provide and coordinate delivery of legal support on all Springstone issues as a trusted advisor and partner to the senior management team, including consumer finance matters and bank partner and provider network management arising from the company’s elective medical procedures and private education markets



- Advise Springstone’s senior management team on a broad range of projects and initiatives



- Participate in the development and support execution of the strategy for Springstone’s internal legal support



- Lead in the delivery of legal counsel and expertise on the development of new products and services, consumer finance laws and regulations, provider management, marketing and other business matters



- Provide thought leadership on industry and regulatory developments as well as on the development and implementation of operational and risk management processes and procedures related to Springstone’s business



- Partner with Springstone’s Compliance officers to ensure comprehensive risk support



- Escalate issues, as appropriate, to the Deputy General Counsel and partner collaboratively to identify issues and share potential concerns and ideas with Legal team members



- Represent Springstone with external parties, including customers, regulators, partners and industry trade groups



- Collaborate with in-house Legal team in support of enterprise matters



- Manage the successful delivery of services by outside counsel







Qualifications



Basic Qualifications:



- J.D. degree and a state bar member in good standing



- At least 6 years of combined law firm, government and/or in-house legal department experience, with increasing or suitable responsibility



- At least 3 years of experience in consumer finance law and regulations



Preferred Qualifications:



- Expertise of the applicable legal and regulatory requirements for Springstone’s business



- Ability to quickly understand the business’ needs and partner with the business, other members of the in-house Legal Team and other internal groups to create solutions and efficiently deliver team results



- 4+ years of experience in an in-house legal department or other work setting in which candidate supported client groups in the consumer finance industry



- Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills



- Proven ability to develop collaborative relationships with internal partners and external customers, with comfort interacting with associates across departments and job levels.
