Mid-Level Associate at O'Melveny & Myers LLP (Silicon Valley, CA)

O'Melveny’s Silicon Valley office is seeking a transactional associate who is fluent in Mandarin with three to five years of experience to work in its corporate practice.

The ideal candidate will provide counsel to U.S. and China-based clients on legal matters or regulations involving complex and novel transactional issues and strategies, VC financing, IPOs and M&A transactions, as well as general corporate matters. Develop substantive legal solutions to satisfy client’s business objectives and lead communications where legal expertise and Chinese language is required to ensure effective negotiation, legal counsel or business development, and to facilitate communications between the firm’s English-speaking attorneys/clients and contacts written in Chinese. Review, analyze, interpret and translate Chinese regulations, laws, documents and communications. Consult with U.S. and China-based clients to gather information, ascertain their needs, and identify key issues. Show a high level of business acumen and cultural competence, both understanding and communicating subtleties in written and spoken language and culture, to conduct negotiations with counterparties and legal counsel, and to conduct business development activities in the U.S. and China. Participate in internal and external business, practice and professional development activities. Assemble and direct team of junior associates and paralegals.

LLM or JD from an accredited U.S. law school; and at least 3 years as an Attorney/Associate in a U.S.-based multinational law firm in cross-border transactions. Requires proficiency in Mandarin Chinese, including the ability to speak, read, and write accurately and fluently, and cultural competence to understand and convey language and cultural nuances for effective negotiation, legal counsel and business development. Must be licensed to practice law in California.
